Driver CPC Training

Drivers Certificate of Professional Confidence – (CPC)

Are you aware of the following regarding CPC:

  1. The date your drivers CPC card expires.
  2. The number of periodic training hours you have completed.

If your staff drives an LGV or PCV then they must undergo periodic training to remain qualified, and must hold a current driving licence for the category of vehicle they are going to drive.

Drivers CPC courses available consist of 35 hours periodic training over a 5-year period.

This means they legally must take 5 x 7-hour courses over the five years.

This can be completed by a 1-day course, 7 hours of periodic training or 2 days (3.5hr) courses over a 24-hour period.

New regulations also state that you cannot legally do the same course over the five years unless there is a good reason, except courses such as manual handling refresher/tachographs.

Please check the expiry date on your card and make sure you have time to complete the training before the expiry date.

Don’t get caught without a digital card. If a company has analogue tachographs, it’s advisable to also have a digital card as most vehicles nowadays are digital e.g. think if you had to hire a vehicle through breakdown etc.

All drivers should be aware of the total number of periodic training hours they have completed before taking the courses.

If drivers are unsure of how many hours training they have completed, go to www.gov.uk, ‘Check my Driver CPC periodic training hours’.
